The secret of the Shimano OT-RS900 Polymer Shift Cable Set is polymer coating that when viewed under a microscope looks like a series of tubes wrapped around the cable. This means less surface area rubbing the internal housing liner and it holds grease longer.

Shimano has developed the special OT-RS900 cable housing. It is less stiff than the conventional OT-SP41 housing and is therefore better suited to the tight curve where the cable is routed from the frame to the rear derailleur.
